How the index is calculated
Each component is normalized to a baseline of 100, then combined into a composite index.
Component index: Iᵢ = 100 × (Cᵢ / Bᵢ)
Overall index: CHC = 100 × Π (Iᵢ/100) ^ wᵢ
- Property tax
- Electricity
- Space heating energy
- Maintenance (annualized)
- Home insurance (proxy)
We publish methodology and sources, but not every internal modelling constant.
What it’s built from
- Public rate tables
- Verified community submissions
- Modeled engineering assumptions
- Aggregated, privacy-safe usage patterns
- Engineering judgement
We don’t store personal financial inputs as part of the index.
