Rate Data Intake Program

CanadaHomeCosts aggregates public rate tables so household costs are easier to compare and understand.

Purpose

This program provides a verified intake pathway for official rate data used in household cost calculations. Submissions are reviewed before publication and never auto-published.

Who this is for

  • Municipal or provincial governments
  • Utilities and regulated service providers
  • Vetted partners with public rate sources

Government and municipal teams

Use this intake to submit official rate tables and published updates for public reference.

Utilities and regulated providers

Provide verified schedules, tariff changes, and effective dates for household cost calculations.

Not for general public submissions

This endpoint is reserved for verified organizations. Community submissions are handled through the public calculators and reviewed separately.

How submissions work

  • Verified submitters only (approved organization accounts).
  • API key authentication (Bearer token).
  • Optional request signing (HMAC) for integrity.
  • Moderated review; nothing auto-publishes.
  • Audit trail with published effective dates.

Benefits of integration

  • Help residents, ratepayers, and community members access clear, verified cost information.
  • Contribute to a national dataset that supports better household decisions across Canada.
  • Reduce ad‑hoc data requests by providing a standardized intake channel.
  • Improve public accuracy with official sources and effective dates.
  • Establish an auditable trail for published updates.
  • Shorten turnaround time when rates change.
  • Enable consistent presentation across CHC calculators and guides.

Onboarding steps

  1. Request access using the contact form.
  2. Complete domain verification (DNS TXT).
  3. Receive an API key.
  4. Submit data to /api/v1/intake/submissions.
  5. CHC reviews and publishes.

See the API documentation and schema references.

Data requirements

  • Effective date is required.
  • Source URL is required (official web page or PDF).
  • Structured data payloads (rates, brackets, or schedules).

Change management

If your published rate changes, submit a new effective date rather than editing prior submissions.

Support and contact
